Sydney Today won the ‘Best Text Report’ award at the 2021 NSW Premier's Multicultural Communications Award (PMCA) after a total of 14 investigative stories published on a vicious series of fraud cases against the Chinese community in Sydney and other Australian capital cities.
Following a strong reaction from the community, appeals were made to encourage victims to come forward. Chinese woman Zeng Xiaoxin had committed up to 100 fraud cases, including scams such as false money transfers, estimated to be in the millions. Sydney Today was able to provide investigative evidence and cooperate with the Police Force that led to 38 successful charges. Zeng was charged with deportation following a 2.5 year prison sentence.
